medical disorders may cause ED erectile dysfunction. If you

medications and recreational drugs can have an adverse affect
on sexual arousal and sexual performance and may cause
erectile dysfunction. It should be noted that prescription

What Medications and Drugs Cause Erectile Dysfunction ?

The most common culprits seem to be blood-pressure drugs
and medications, tricyclic antidepressants, anti-parkinsonian
drugs, antihistamines, anxiolytics, antipsychotics and hormonal
thyroid medications, but many drugs can interfere with erections
causing ED. If you suspect that your erectile dysfunction is
caused by a medication or drug you're taking, check the
side-effects listing in the package insert information label that
came with the medication. If you do not have this, you can get
this from your pharmacist. Make sure to consult your doctor
about switching to another type of drug if experience ED.

If you think that a prescription medication you are taking is
having a negative effect on erectile performance, discuss the
matter with your health care provider about the drug you are
taking. Never stop taking any medication without first consulting
your health care provider, because some medications can
produce life-threatening reactions if they are not carefully and
slowly stopped or switched appropriately.

Other drugs, substances or medications that can cause erectile
dysfunction include these recreational and frequently abused
drugs which include alcohol, amphetamines, methadone,
nicotine, opiates, barbiturates, cocaine and marijuana. Aside
from the well known complications that the use and abuse of
these drugs can cause, erectile dysfunction ED is not often
mentioned. However, use of these drugs is a risk factor for
erectile dysfunction. These drugs not only affect and often times
suppress the central nervous system, but can also cause
serious damage to the blood vessels, leading to permanent ED.

If you experience erectile dysfunction and think that it may be a
result of medication or drug you are taking, do not stop taking
the medication without first consulting your doctor. If the problem
persists, your doctor may be able to prescribe a different
medication or drug that does not have a negative ED effect.
